support education.
Welcome to the World Package: $250
One infant massage instruction session prior to delivery, two to
three sessions after baby is born, and one massage each for Mom
and Dad/partner. Includes handouts with infant massage techniques
and massage oil. Gives parents the confidence and skills they need
to massage their newborns, and offers a chance for new Moms and
Dads to get some much-needed relaxation.
Almost There Package: $220
One massage every week during the last month of pregnancy. Helps
with foot
and leg cramps, lower back and sciatic pain, upper back and shoulder
tension, and general relaxation. Also provides Moms an opportunity
to learn about labor support and post-natal recovery techniques.
Labor Support
Labor support has been shown to promote shorter labors, reduced
anxiety and stress hormone levels, increased circulation, heightened
endorphin levels, fewer requests for epidurals, lessened need for
oxytocin drips, reduced heart rate and blood pressure, and faster
recovery from labor. Newborns whose mothers have had labor support
have been reported to have higher Apgar scores and lower incidence
of jaundice and fever. Mothers commonly are more satisfied with
their birth experiences, have less pain during labor, and after
six weeks, report better relationships with their husbands, higher
rates of breastfeeding, and fewer infant illnesses (Jordan 72).
My goal in labor support is to provide comfort, relaxation, and
pain relief to the laboring mother, and to support the mother’s
family and other members of her support team. I will never try to
take the place of Dad or partner – my purpose is to support,
encourage, and assist when asked. I always put parents’ needs
first (which may mean respecting Mom’s wishes not to be touched
at certain moments), and I encourage all parents to come to me with
any questions or concerns they may have.
Full Labor Support Package: $700
Includes two massage sessions in the 9th month; one meeting with
Mom and Dad/partner to go over labor philosophies, strategies, and
techniques; and labor support for the duration of the birth.
Labor Support Techniques: $125
Includes two one-hour sessions for both parents to learn and demonstrate
labor support techniques, labor preparation strategies, and labor
recovery exercises.
Infant Massage
Infant massage is practiced in many countries around the world,
but has only recently begun to catch on in the United States. Infant
massage has many benefits for both parent and child:
· Strengthens the parent/child bond, creating happier babies
and parents
· Promotes better sleep patterns
· Improves circulation and respiration
· Decreases colic
· Increases weight gain
· Reduces stress hormones
· Promotes emotional, physical, and mental development
· Improves digestion
· Improves parents’ confidence, well-being, and ability
to read baby’s cues
Group Infant Massage Classes: $75 for four classes
Includes handouts and massage oil. Provides parents with the knowledge
they need to give their child a full-body massage, including strokes
for legs, stomach, chest, arms, back, and head, as well as special
stroke combinations designed for colicky babies.
Private Infant Massage Classes: $150 for three classes
Includes the same benefits as in the group classes, but with full
attention on you
and your baby. Classes usually only require three sessions because
of more
personalized instruction.
Private Infant Massage Classes in your home: $200 for three
classes
I will gladly teach infant massage in the comfort and privacy of
your home. Group classes in individual homes can also be arranged.
